Return to aurora information page

Bill had started to set up to take images of Saturn in the western sky but was startled to see a very bright magenta hued aurora grow in the NW sky about 10pm. The aurora spread across the entire northern sky with sheets of green and yellow visible closer to the horizon. This aurora was the result of a large solar flare that had erupted earlier and was pointed directly at Earth. The show went on for several hours, it was most excellent.
