Dublin Ohio, 4:30am until 6:00am local time.

We had wonderful clear and cool weather. Fog formed in the lower areas late in the morning so dew was no problem. An Orion EQ-2 mount with clock drive was used to hold a Canon 400mm IS zoom lens. I used a 2x barlow for an EFL of 800mm for some of the shots. The barlow lens causes secondary reflections when photographing high contrast images such as the eclipsing moon. In those cases the barlow was removed and the images created using just the 400mm alone.

I also watched the eclipse through my trusty old Questar along with Mars and some brighter deep sky objects. Through the telescope the colors mute a bit into a salmon orange for the eclipsed surface. This was a relatively bright eclipse by comparison to others I've seen.

The camera, a Canon Digital Rebel, was set to an ASA rating of 800. Exposures vary from 1/800 of a second for the partial phases to 30 seconds for the total phase. The sun was rising as the moon set lightening up the background sky.

All in all, it was a beautiful eclipse!
