Waiting Room

The light was not very bright and lost itself in the dull surfaces of the walls, there were no reflections and nothing moved. In the course of time the clock stopped. He lay on his bed, stretched out on his back, his arms at his sides, his eyes closed, but he did not sleep. Feeling his heart beating calmly, he knew that he had not wound up the clock for a long time. He decided to keep it that way.

In the middle of the night he woke up. He stood up and opened the window. The night breeze blew in silently and touched his skin (wind was vital for him). Far out behind the fields, the moon had risen over the horizon, still dark and indistinct in the low haze so that it did not seem to rest in the depths of the universe, but looked like a gigantic sphere rolling in the higher altitudes of the earthly atmosphere, faintly illuminated from the ground and slowly drifting southwards.
