Questar Telescope Even at professional observatories, the instrument of choice for viewing a total solar eclipse is a small telescope like the Questar. Not only is it very portable I can state from experience that the view through it is exceptionally good, set up is easy, and the small one fits in the overhead luggage of most airlines.
