The majority of this total solar eclipse took place over the continental USA yielding the name Great American Eclipse. August was an excellent month for solar eclipses in the USA. Over much of the eclipse path a typical August day is hot and humid with a potential for late afternoon rain showers. This one was gladly typical except in a few locations. Millions of people were able to see this eclipse. And since the last time an eclipse was visible in the continental USA (lower 48) was 1979, whole generations have been born - thus it was a first for many. The majority that went to the totality path state that it was worth it. Those that missed the central total by a slight amount also reported interesting views. And everywhere else in the lower 48 of the USA saw a partial eclipse with thousands of people using solar eclipse glasses to catch a clear view.
